Holiday Cheer for CMHA Kids

On December 21, CMHA board member Karen Cote and her family and friends threw a festive holiday party for children in our Child & Family Services New Britain program.

For the past five years, this group of outstanding volunteers have made the holidays special for children who don't always have reason to celebrate. From food, games and a visit from Santa to a customized bag of gifts for each client, the volunteers always go out of their way to make each child feel special. The event has become a welcomed tradition for CMHA staff and clients.

Grants and Good News

CMHA is proud to announce recent grants awards to benefit our central and northwest Connecticut clients and communities.

The Draper Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation of Northwest CT awarded $22,000 for renovations and security system updates to our Torrington Child & Family Services offices.

The Child Health & Development Institute (CHDI) granted $12,000 to CMHA for the MATCH (Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, or Conduct Problems) learning collaborative.

The Department of Public Health will fund $194,000 over the next two years ($97,000/year) for tobacco prevention and education via our Substance Abuse Action Council's (SAAC) Local Prevention Councils.

The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain awarded $20,000 to provide case management services at our winter homeless shelter in New Britain.

DMHAS Commissioner Visits CMHA Social Club

CMHA had the pleasure of welcoming Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) Commissioner Miriam Delphin-Rittmon to our Team Time Social Club twice in November.

The Commissioner stopped by for a tour earlier in the month and then came back for our annual Thanksgiving luncheon, where she even pitched in to help our Senior Management team serve food!
