CMHA Receives Accreditation from Joint Commission

CMHA is pleased to announce that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Behavioral Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective care.

CMHA is only the seventh Joint Commission accredited Behavioral Health Home in the entire country and the first agency in Connecticut and New England to achieve this certification, a hallmark of innovation. The Behavioral Health Home is a special credential for agencies that excel in providing integrated primary and behavioral health care.

CMHA underwent a rigorous on-site survey during which compliance with behavioral health care standards related to several areas, including care, treatment and services, leadership, and environment of care. On-site observations and interviews also were conducted.  Out of 1,450+ regular behavioral health standards, CMHA had just one minor finding.

Even with fiscal constraints and increased client demands, we hold ourselves to these higher standards and go above and beyond by seeking Joint Commission accreditation.  It’s another example of CMHA’s commitment to setting new standards of excellent, compassionate care.

Established in 1969, The Joint Commission’s Behavioral Health Care Accreditation program currently accredits more than 2,100 organizations for a three-year period. Accredited organizations provide treatment and services within a variety of settings across the care continuum for individuals who have mental health, addiction, eating disorder, intellectual/developmental disability, and/or child-welfare related needs.

The Joint Commission’s behavioral health care standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, quality improvement measurement experts, and individuals and their families. The standards are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
