Open House at CMHA's New Child & Family Services Site

CMHA hosted a well-attended Open House on March 14 at the new home of our Child & Family Services programs at
125 Whiting Street in New Britain.  Community partners, local school and government officials, funders, and staff toured the site and heard from CMHA Psychiatrist Dr. Manzoor Usman, who gave a brief talk on his treatment philosophy, trends in mental health care, and client successes.

CMHA Welcomes New Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Atkins

CMHA is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Atkins, MD, as the agency’s Chief Medical Officer 

A board-certified psychiatrist, clinical trainer, and widely-published author, Dr. Atkins brings diverse and extensive administrative and clinical experience to CMHA. He is on the volunteer faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine, and currently serves as an attending physician and psychiatrist at Waterbury Hospital Health Center. Dr. Atkins previously served as Chief of Professional Services and Medical Director for the Western CT Mental Health Network (DMHAS), and was a prior medical director for the department of behavioral health at Waterbury Hospital.

In addition to his published books in the field of psychiatry, Dr. Atkins is the author of numerous mysteries, psychological thrillers, and science fiction novels. Dr. Atkins is a graduate of New York University and Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at Yale. He will be based at our administrative headquarters in New Britain.

   

 

Making Sure Our Voices Are Heard

CMHA staff and clients gathered with representatives from other local service organizations for a Legislative Breakfast at Central CT Association for Retarded Citizens (CCARC) in New Britain.
The event provided a forum for agencies and clients to voice concerns, share insights, and engage in dialogue with legislators regarding the state of affairs of health and human services in Connecticut. More photos on CMHA's Facebook page here.

CMHA Welcomes New Board Members

 Bill Riiska

Bill Riiska is an attorney and resident of Lakeville, CT.
A well-known and respected member of the Lakeville community, he’s been involved with a number of civic organizations in northwest Connecticut.  Bill was the board president of the Northwest Center for Family Service,
before the organization merged with CMHA.

Jerry Holmes

Jerry Holmes is President & CEO of Hovin Underwriting Partners in Simsbury. For the past six years, Jerry and his staff have gathered dozens of backpacks and filled them with school supplies for the kids in CMHA’s New Britain Child & Family Services programs.
Karen Cote
Karen Cote has devoted 37 years as an elementary school teacher in Newington, CT.  For the past three years, she has organized volunteers, family and friends to provide the children of CMHA’s New Britain Child & Family Services with a holiday party complete with personalized gifts for every child, games, and a visit from Santa.
 Kinga Kostaniak

Kinga Kostaniak is an associate at Rembish and LaSaracina in New Britain. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut, where she received a BA in Psychology and Sociology and also earned her Doctorate from the UConn School of Law in Hartford.
