Jail Diversion Program
10 Whiting Street - New Britain, CT - (860) 229-4830
The Jail
Diversion Program helps adults involved in the Criminal Justice
system, who meet Department of Mental Health and Addiction
Services (DMHAS) criteria for psychiatric disabilities, to
obtain access to community services. In doing so, appropriate
clients are diverted from the corrections system and placed
in more appropriate settings. These clients are those with
less serious and with non-violent offences. In addition, the
Jail Diversion program acts as a resource for the Department
of Corrections in planning releases/discharges of inmates
impacted by mental illness.
Community Mental
Health Affiliates (CMHA) employs experienced clinicians
and case managers to work in the Jail Diversion Program.
Staff have offices at CMHA in New Britain and are present
in New Britain and Bristol courts everyday. The Connecticut
Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS)
funds the program. The Jail Diversion Program is staffed
by a Program Coordinator, Senior Clinicians, Clinical Case
Managers and Case Managers.
