Shelter Plus Care

The Shelter Plus Care program
is designed to provide housing and related support to clients
with serious substance abuse and/or mental health problems
that have impacted their abilities to get and keep appropriate
housing. The program provides Section 8 Housing vouchers,
along with Intensive Case Management services. We currently
have 42 vouchers, of which 18 are reserved for families. All
units are consistently full, and there is often a waiting
list. Case Managers work with clients to seek housing, to
develop the skills necessary to maintain an apartment, and
to engage in appropriate treatment(s). Services are predominantly
provided in the community, and Case Managers work with landlords,
treatment providers, as well as the client and their family
to achieve success. The CMHA Housing Coordinator also works
with local housing agencies, sheltering organizations and
landlords to develop new housing options.
